Stone Cross are now and have always been an inventive independent centre where you can buy most things you require for your garden.

We pride ourselves with having an extensive knowledge of plants with the back up to support our plant sales. We are happy to help with all garden queries, and our trained staff are on hand to give advice.

Customer advice is available on our information Desks that are situated next to the entrance and by the tills. Here we are able to help with any queries you may have.

Open All week Monday – Saturday 9.00 – 5.30  Sunday 10.00 – 4.00

In the next few months we are extending the covered shop area and building a new café.

The list of books and support items listed are growing all the time as is the range of useful items for the garden shed to make gardening as easy and enjoyable as possible.

We have many plants to use as winter colour suitable forms with evergreen leaves to winter berries and flowers. Some of the main material used for winter colour and all year round evergreen foliage are listed below. There are many different types and silver and gold variegated plant forms that can add an extra seasonal flourish to any garden. Come and see more plants at the Centre and get the best advise on planting and pruning.

  • Aucuba japonica varigarta: (Spotted Laurel) Leaves lightly spotted and bloched creamy yellow, with red berries in the autumn / winter and can be grown as a hedge.

  • Choisya ternata Goldfingers:  Bright yellow foliage with sweetly scented white flowers in may and again in September. Plant in a well drained fertile soil. Prefers some sun for best foliage colour.

  • Ilex x altaclerensis 'Golden King' for holly leaves with a golden splash of colour. An added bonus is that the leaves are free of spines.

  • Ilex 'Silver Queen' holly for green foliage with a silver edge. This is a male plant though, so it won't produce any berries.

  • Eucalyptus gunnii attractive blue-green scented, round leaves.

  • Ilex aquifolium, common holly traditional red berries. Used to fill in gaps in a mixed hedge row or as a stand alone large shrub or tree.

  • Viburnum opulus orangey-red berries and a good plant for atttracting wild life.

  • Symphoricarpos x doorenbosii 'Mother of Pearl' (snowberry) has a whitish-pink berry that will make your garden look as if it has flecks of snow on it.

  • Ilex holly: holly loads of variagated colour leaves with attractive red or yellow berries.

  • Skimmia japonica subsp. Reevesiana a good alternative to holly with bright red berries and attractive glossy leaves.

  • Rosa rugosa Rose hips for a dramatic touch of winter colour in the garden.

  • Skimmia japonica 'Rubella' this is a male plant, and so doesn't produce berries, but it does produce attractive purplish clusters of flower buds wintertime.
